The Customers
Sheila, Deputy Manager:
A good customer service always earns an extra customer – this is how I think. So I always try my best to do a good job and give a great customer service, that’s all.
Anjali, Shop Manager:
So we get customers that come in and all they really want to do is spend their money and have some fun. Generally, when they come in here most of them get that – so they walk in and they walk out with a smile – job done!
Most Memorable Bets
Anjali, Shop Manager:
Generally bets when you take them are just quite routine, sometimes you get shocked if they’re for high stake. But the thing that makes them memorable is when you get a really big return.
Renee, Shop Manager:
One of my most memorable bets was from one of my regular customers. He’s a guy he only puts maybe £2, £3 on a bet. He put a £3 tote bet on and got £1500. He was so happy he made us happy because he’s a really nice guy.
Sheila, Deputy Manager:
I was working once, and it was just a horse, I can’t remember the name and one of my customers had the same name. He as doing a lucky 15 and it was £1.50 so I say “You know there is a horse running at that time and it has your name” and then he just added it onto his bet and turned the lucky 15 into a lucky 31. That little change made him win an extra £600. That was really awesome! He was so pleased he even left me a £10 tip!
John, Deputy Manager:
My most memorable bet working at Ladbrokes was £4000 each way on a horse that returned £56000 and the horse won. Obviously the customer was over the moon which obviously makes everyone else feel good.
The Best Thing
Renee, Shop Manger:
The best thing about working at Ladbrokes is that every day’s different - you meet loads of different people, no two days are the same, there’s always something exciting going on and you never know what to expect.
Jodie, Cashier:
The most exciting thing about working at Ladbrokes is the people you get to meet and the different people you get to work with. No day’s the same.
John, Deputy Manager:
The most exciting thing about my job is getting good feedback from customers. Because when they win they bring you good feedback and it makes you feel good about your day.
Anjali, Shop Manager:
Busy days are good because you get so much packed into your day but quiet days I like because I actually do like paperwork so I get my Tipp-Ex out and do the staffing or fill in some paperwork for the monthly planner and get up to date on things.
Sheila, Deputy Manager:
Just serving my customers is exciting for me and having a nice chat with them about the events of the day. Tipping them on horses that would be a nice thing. Because my tips, one in ten times, one of them will come definite.
Social Life
Anjali, Shop Manager:
Socially, this is a fun place to work because managers, cashiers - it doesn’t matter who you are or what grade you are - we all like to go out and do fun things together. I organised a paint-balling day for my shop team, just before Christmas - and had a massive bruise!
Sheila, Deputy Manager:
It’s always good to get on and have a social life. Not only working, working. Getting together always makes things good.
John, Deputy Manager:
The social atmosphere is very, very bubbly inside shops because obviously there’s money, gambling and everyone’s enjoying themselves.
Anjali, Shop Manager:
We do tend to try to have a lot of fun because we spend so much time together. So there’s fun on one side of the counter and on the other side!
